education vs. experience

warning. this is another nikell rampage. if you don't like them, don't read it. why is it that experience will always win over education? WHY?! that job i applied for originally wanted to hire someone with a degree. aka ME. but then little miss california lady comes along and SHE gets the job because she has many many years of experience working in a wastewater lab. and who ends up in second place still jobless? ME! (i know this info because i know someone on the inside of the wastewater dept.) i totally get why they hired her over me. that makes sense. but i would like to think that someday someone will want to hire someone that has a greater understanding of what they are doing, even though you have to train them rather than just hires someone that just knows what they are doing, not why. i don't know if that makes any sense. so anyway, while i am spending five years sitting in the lab dissecting sharks and cats and people, or genetically creating e coli that can glow in the dark.... everyone else is out in the "real world" getting "real life experience". and their real life experience is obviously better to employers than an education. looks like i'll just have to get a job as a cashier at my favorite store target. oh wait a second! that's not gonna work! i don't have any retail experience! but hey i am sure they would let me serve food from their cafe since that seems to be the only thing i am good at! bah humbug. i am going to go play with sophie

What a bummer. Oh well, at least you still have the best job in the world, staying home with Sophie :) Have you thought of doing an internship for something in your degree? They're usually not paid but the experience would look good and probably help down the road for other jobs.
